Boyertown senior midfielder Troy Moyer has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Sacred Heart University and will become the first D1 recruit in school history.
Moyer helped the Bears advance to the District 1 playoffs (11-10 record) for the first time last year. Moyer was a second Team Pioneer Athletic Conference pick in 2010 and was a First Team selection as a freshman and a sophomore.
He plays his club lacrosse for the Duke’s.
Moyer plans on majoring in Athletic Training when he enters Sacred Heart. A big fan of sports, Moyer chose athletic training because he wants to stay involved when his career is over.
Moyer said he liked that Sacred Heart contacted him first and remained committed.
“I went on four visits and fell in love with the campus and I really like what (head) coach (Tom) Mariano stands for,” Moyer said.
Sacred Heart is a member of the Northeast League, which includes Bryant, Quinnipiac, Mount St. Mary’s, Robert Morris and Wagner.
Moyer is the second senior at Boyertown to commit to play college lacrosse. Earlier, defenseman Tyler Shaw is committed to play Division III lacrosse at Washington College.
After making the PAC-10 playoffs last year, the Moyer expects the Bears to challenge league powers Owen J. Roberts and Spring-Ford in 2011.
