Lacrosse greats Lindquist, Stilley to be inducted into Haverford School Hall of Fame

The Haverford School Alumni Association will honor two former lacrosse greats J. Peter Lindquist (Class of 1973) and David S. Stilley (Class of 1992) – among seven athletes, one team, and one coach during induction ceremonies into the Athletic Hall of Fame March 5 in the school’s Field House.

The lacrosse honorees are as follows:

J. Peter Lindquist, Class of 1973. In lacrosse, he was first team All-State in 1971, 1972 and 1973; and was first team All-American in 1971 and 1973.

At the University of Michigan, he was a three-year lacrosse starter, and led the midfield in scoring three years. He also was part of the undefeated Inter-Ac football champions of 1970 and 1971, and was first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Main Line. He averaged 10 yards per touch in 1971.

David S. Stilley, Class of 1992 (was originally inducted in 2004, but was unable to attend that year), was a standout in football, wrestling and lacrosse at Haverford School.

In lacrosse, he was All Inter-Ac and All-Main Line three times, and All-State twice as an All American defenseman. In 1992, he was Main Line Times Player of the Year and received the Rainer Shield for best all-around athlete.

At Duke University, he was lacrosse captain twice and was first team All-American. He played professional indoor lacrosse for the Philadelphia Wings from 1998 to 2002, was captain of the team twice, and helped the team to titles in 1998 and 2001.

He also played for the New Jersey Pride in professional outdoor lacrosse (Major League Lacrosse) from 2000 to 2003.In football, he was All-Main Line three times; All Inter-Ac, All-State, and team MVP two years.

He set Inter-Ac rushing records for a season (1,462 yards) and career (3,140 yards). In wrestling, he was All Inter-Ac, was Pennsylvania Prep Champion twice and All-Main Line three years.

Other honorees are:
John Y. Howson, Class of 1927 (deceased); football; and basketball.
John M. Cummings, Class of 1954; football, track and field and wrestling.
Samuel P. Howe III, Class of 1956; squash and tennis.
David Groverman, Class of 1970; wrestling.
Mark R. Mayock, Class of 1980; football and baseball.
Coach Michael F. Mayock Sr.; football and squash coach.
The 1961 Inter-Ac champion football team finished with an 8-0-0 record and outscored opponents, 160-25.
