The Haverford School took the top spot in the preseason boys’ POWERADE FAB 50 ESPN RISE Team Rankings released today.

The Fords earned seven of the eight first-place votes and 398 points. They are followed by Garden City (N.Y.) and St. Paul’s (Md.), a team they play Friday in Baltimore to open the season.

At No. 4 is Boys’ Latin of Baltimore, followed by Conestoga. Conestoga plays Boys’ Latin on March 29 at Franklin & Marshall College.

Georgetown Prep (Md.) is at No. 6, followed by Darien (Ct.) and Manhasset (N.Y.) La Salle is next.

Also from Philly, St. Joseph’s Prep is No. 27, Garnet Valley is No. 31 and Malvern Prep is No. 33. Others receiving votes were Salesianum School (20 points), Episcopal Academy (18), South Jersey’s St. Augustine Prep (16) and Germantown Academy (14).

Teams from nine states and Washington D.C. are represented in the poll. In all, New York had 16 teams in the Poll, followed by Maryland (nine) and Pennsylvania (six). New Jersey had four.

The POWERADE FAB 50 ESPN RISE Team Rankings is in its second year overall, but for the first time was voted on by a panel of media members from around the country. Schools are ranked by points received. The number in parenthesis reflects first-place votes. LW is last week’s ranking.

The panel of voters includes Phillylacrosse.com Founder and Editor Chris Goldberg, former Holy Ghost Prep and Delaware standout and current Philadelphia Wing Brett Manney (representing ESPN RISE) and former Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association President Jimmy Oliver (representing LaxPower). The rankings are compiled by Mike Loveday.
