Laura Pacheco scored the game-winner in overtime today, lifting Mount St. Joseph to an 8-7 victory over Villa Maria Academy in the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies.

The outcome caused a tie atop the AACA race as VMA fell to 8-1 in the league (11-3 overall). The Mount is also 8-1 in the league and 10-3 overall. Merion Mercy – which defeated the Mount earlier this year – is right behind in third place at 8-2 (9-3 overall) after downing Gwynedd Mercy Academy, 20-6, today.

The Mount was up, 7-4, b ut a furious Villa Maria Academy rally sent it into OT. VJM almost won it in regulation, but Mount goalie Alex Lista (nine saves, four groundballs) made a key save with 10 seconds left.

Pacheco won the draw to set up her game-winner, Villa tried to clear the ball after a Mount shot, but sophomore Marley Breslin knocked down the pass and Emilee Ehret came up with the groundball.

She found junior Pacheco in the 8-meter area and Pacheco fired in the game-winner.

Olivia Gannon led the Mount with four goals and Stevie Wells added two goals and an assist,

Jenna Mertz led Villa Maria with four goals and Erin Kelly scored twice while Sam Ostoich had a goal and an assist.
