Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 7/8/11

The feature film Crooked Arrows will conclude its National Casting in July with a stop in the Boston area from July 11-14. Producers J. Todd Harris and Mitchell Peck announced that the Reebok-sponsored Casting Tour is looking for 14-25 year old lacrosse athletes to be featured in the movie being shot this summer in and around Boston starting August 1.

The movie, written by Virginia native Todd Baird, tells the story of a Native American high school team’s unlikely ascent to the prep league championship game. Veteran Hollywood director Steve Rash (The Buddy Holly Story, Can’t Buy Me Love, Bring It On 3 and 4) will helm the picture set for nationwide theatrical release during the spring of 2012 at the peak of lacrosse season. Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) has been cast as the film’s lead.

Open auditions for lacrosse athletes of all backgrounds will be held on Monday and Tuesday, July 11 and 12 from 10AM-4PM at Sprague Field in Wellesley, MA. Monday is for boys and girls under 17. Tuesday is for men 18 and up, also from 10AM-4PM. Final National Callbacks will be Wednesday, July 13, and final team selection is on Thursday, July 14 at the same location.

Athletic drills will be run by Sports Studio’s Coach Mark Ellis, best known for casting the athletes and choreographing the action in Miracle, Invincible, The Longest Yard, and Game Plan, among other sports movie classics. Although the movie is not casting lacrosse players under 14, boys and girls under 14 will have a chance to hear Coach Ellis talk about Hollywood sports movies and participate in a lacrosse skills drills from 10am-12 noon on Monday, July 11. Boys and girls 14-17 will be seen Monday from noon-4:00 pm. All attendees will be considered for extra roles.

“We’ve had over a thousand passionate lacrosse athletes try out in Baltimore, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey editions of the Casting Tour. We’re excited to see the Native American talent in Central New York and a good number of the fast-growing Boston lacrosse population at our final event,” comments producer Peck. “We’re expecting our biggest turnout in Boston since we’re shooting the movie there starting August 1.”

The film has received support from leaders in the lacrosse community, including: Inside Lacrosse; US Lacrosse; National Lacrosse League; Major League Lacrosse; MetroLacrosse; and the Tewaaraton Committee. In addition, the movie has been endorsed by many of the sport’s best-known coaches and players at every level.
