The Duke’s Lacrosse Club Black squad went 7-0 and defeated Rebel Elite, 10-5, Sunday night in the championship game of the annual Duke’s Invitational at the Far Post in Oaks.
The event featured 10 teams – six representing four grade levels from the Duke’s LC – as well as three teams from Tri-State and one from Rebel.
The event serves as a fundraiser and a goodbye to Duke’s seniors as well as a chance for players to get exposure for recruiting purposes.
Duke’s Black was coached by Ron Forster. Tri-State is guided by Don Green while Rebel Elite was coached by Harry Sankey.
The Duke’s Black defense was led by Dustin Keen (Downingtown West/signed with St. Joseph’s) in goal and Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum/North Carolina), Jesse Horn (Great Valley/Stevenson), Rich O’Neill (Unionvile/St. Joe’s) and Collin Brown (Wilson West-Lawn/St. Mary’s) on defense.
The key was the Duke’s Black powerful offense, led by seniors Joey Sankey (Penn Charter/North Carolina), Eric Gartner (Great Valley/Villanova) and Kevin Forster (La Salle/Maryland).
Other seniors playing impressively in their last game for the Duke’s L.C. were Corbin Booker (Chestnut Hill Ac./Brown), Troy Moyer (Boyertown/Sacred Heart) and Chas Robino (Tower Hill/UMass).
Also playing strong for Duke’s Black were juniors Ryan Ambler (Abington/verbal commitment to Princeton), Jeremy Omrod (Holy Ghost Prep/verbal to Drexel), Grayson Helm (Wyomissing) and Connor Haab (Episcopal Academy) and standout sophomores Matt Rambo, Sean Coleman (La Salle) and Brandyn O’Connell (Downingtown East).
Duke’s Black got to the finals by beating Duke’s Blue in the semis, 18-14, in a hard- fought game. Duke’s Blue was led by Tournament MVP Jack Miller (Trinity HS), who put on a show all day; and goalie Jackson Tamasitis (Penn Charter), who was making serious stops to even keep the game close.
Rebel Elite beat Tri-State Green 15-13 in the other semi to advance to the championship.
