Garnet Valley used an 8-1 spurt to break open a 7-7 tie and capture a 15-10 victory over Great Valley today in the semifinals of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament at Henderson High.
The third-seeded Jaguars (20-2) advance to the title game to meet Downingtown East Thursday at West Chester East at 7:30 p.m. Downingtown East advanced by defeating Springfield-Delco, 14-8.
Great Valley (19-2) will play Springfield-Delco in the third-place game at Henderson Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
Ally Heavens (four goals) broke the 7-7 tie with 19:17 to play and Garnet Galley proceeded to seize control,
“The turning point of the game was a timeout we called with 17 minutes left on the clock in the second half,” said Garnet Valley coach Kate Henwood. “We dug deep on the draw circle and pulled ahead by working as a team on both sides of the ball.
“We are very excited to be in a position to compete for the district championship. The best part about it is that no one saw us coming! But now the only thing people need to know about Garnet Valley is that we never give up… ever.”
Halley Barnes added three goals and two assists for the Jags while Ashley Pyle had two goals and two assists and Haley Warden scored twice. Kate Stroup made 11 saves in a strong effort.
Ali Karwoski poured in six goals for the Patriots.
