District 1 girls’ lacrosse: Downingtown East downs Springfield-Delco, 14-8, to reach championship game

Emily Solenberger had four goals and two assists and Ashley Poli added four goals and one assist as Downingtown East claimed a 14-8 victory over Springfield-Delco today in the District 1 girls’ lacrosse semifinals at Henderson High.

The win advances the top-seeded Cougars (21-1) to Thursday’s championship game against the winner of Garnet Valley and Great Valley at West Chester East at 7:30 p.m. Springfield-Delco, the No. 5 seed, falls to 19-3 and faces the Garnet Valley-Great Valley loser for third place at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at East.

Downingtown East jumped to an 11-5 halftime lead and never looked back as goalie Allie Murray made 18 saves. Nicole Barretta and McKenzie Rafferty each had two goals and an assist while Haley Nelson and Linnea Faccenda each scored once.

Courtney Kennedy and Nathalie Basunga each scored three goals for Springfield-Delco and Alex Poplawski added a pair.
