Jackie Strange scored the game-winner with three seconds to play, lifting Council Rock North to a stunning 16-15 victory over Radnor today in the second round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.
The win advances the 11th-seeded Indians (15-2) into the quarterfinals Saturday against Garnet Valley at West Chester East (2 p.m.).
For Radnor (14-6), it’s a premature ending for a team that won the first two Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championships and also had won a District 1 Class AAA crown in 2008. The Central League quad-champions closed the year with five losses in their last nine games.
Council Rock North got six goals and an assist from Kara Magley and four goals from Becky Ely. Lindsay Rheiner had three goals and four assists and Hannah Plappert had a goal and two assists. Mikaela Gribbon scored once and Taylor beck made seven saves.
For the Red Raiders, Leah Gallagher had four goals, an assist, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Natalie Miller had four goals and an assist and Amelie Yeager added three goals and one assist while Kristen Norden had two goals and an assist..
