District 1 girls’ lacrosse: Boyertown uses strong second half to down Conestoga, 12-11

Amanda Smith and Kate Dehaven each scored three goals as visiting Boyertown defeated Conestoga, 12-11, today in the second round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.

He win vaulted the 10th-seeded Bears (18-4) into the quarterfinals Saturday against second-seeded Great Valley at 6 p.m. Great Valley advanced by downing Strath Haven, 15-8.

The seventh-seeded Pioneers finished at 12-7.

The Bears trailed, 9-7, at halftime but limited Conestoga to two goals in the second half. Devyn Heidelbaugh scored the game-winner on a free position with 3:30 to play.

“The kids believed they could do it,” said Boyertown coach Pam Wernersbach. “They played hard and refused to roll over.”

Rachel Engler added two goals for the Bears and Lindsay Clinton made eight saves for the win in goal.

Meghan McGillis led the Pioneers with three goals and an assist and Brooke McGillis added two goals and two assists. Kelly Morrison and Catie Smith each scored twice and Sarah Priem made 11 saves.
