District 1 boys’ lacrosse: Downingtown West claims 14-4 victory over Spring-Ford; Conestoga routs Abington

Zach Logan fired in four goals and Eric Renkel added two goals and three assists while helping his team dominate at the face-off X to power third-seeded Downingtown West to a convincing 14-4 victory over No. 11 Spring-Ford in a District 1 quarterfinal boys’ lacrosse playoff today at Harriton High.

The third-seeded Whippets improved to 19-1 and advanced to a semifinal matchup with No. 2 seed Central Bucks East Tuesday at Plymouth Whitemarsh (6 p.m.).

The loss drops the Pioneer Athletic Conference champion Rams (20-3) into a Tuesday play-back game at fifth-seeded Avon Grove (time TBA), which was upset 4-3 in double-overtime by Pennsbury.

Spring-Ford, which fell behind 4-0 by the end of the first period and 7-1 at the intermission, had trouble gaining possession as Downingtown West posted a 14-4 advantage in face-offs and a 39-28 edge in shots. Rankel won 8 of 10 face-offs.

Brad Shenberger had two goals and an assist and Dylan Ikkala added two goals.

Drew Thomas, Brian Bock, Zach Monzo and Justin Kelly all scored goals for the Rams, with Jared Novia contributing 14 saves.

Connor Frisina scored four goals and Tyler Brooke added three goals and an assist as the top-seeded Pioneers coasted into the semifinals by routing thew Ghosts.

Conestoga (19-1) will meet Pennsbury in the semis Tuesday at Plymouth Whitemarsh at 8 p.m. Abington plays at Avon Grove at a time to be determined.

Travis O’Connor made 16 saves for the Ghosts and Nick Pisko scored their lone goal.
