Four University of Delaware men’s lacrosse players closed out their collegiate careers with a victory Friday night.

Game Most Valuable Player Noah Fossner and fellow Blue Hen seniors Kevin Kaminski (Kaminski), Nick Elsmo, and Matt Stefurak led the South team to a 15-11 victory over the North in the annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South Senior All-Star Game Friday night at Goucher College.

The win helped the four Blue Hens close out their careers on a high note after Delaware fell to Duke 15-14 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament May 14 in Durham, N.C. Delaware capped one of its finest seasons in school history this spring as the Blue Hens posted a record of 11-7, won the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year and for the third time in the last five seasons.

Fossner, a three-year starter at goalkeeper and a three-time UD captain from Niskayuna, N.Y., was named the game’s Most Valuable Player as he started between the pipes and faced 16 shots, posting six saves while allowing just four goals, to earn the victory. He also recorded a caused turnover and scooped up a team-high four groundballs. Fossner was a two-time CAA All-Tournament selection, earned All-CAA  honors in 2010, and ranked No. 5 all-time at UD with 552 saves during his stellar career.

Kaminski, a midfielder from Strath Haven, was one of 12 South players to score a goal during the game as he netted his team’s second goal to go up 2-1 six minutes into the contest. The South held that lead until midway through the final quarter. Kaminski finished with a goal, four shots, and one caused turnover. He was a first team All-CAA selection this past spring and was the CAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Elsmo, a midfielder from Annapolis, Md., came off the bench to contribute three shots, one groundball, and one caused turnover while Stefurak, a defender from Smithtown, N.Y., helped the South cause with one caused turnover.

Ryan Klipstein, Corey Winkoff (Penn), and Robert Stockton each scored two goals apiece to lead the South squad, which outscored the North 6-3 in the final quarter and netted four straight goals in the final stanza to break a 10-10 tie.

Stephen DeNapoli led the North with three goals while Jeremy Boltus dished out four assists.
