Sean Mingey scored the game-winner with 2:49 to play, lifting host Penncrest to a 7-6 upset victory tonight over previously-undefeated Ridley in a Central League boys’ lacrosse game.

The loss dropped the Green Raiders to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the Central League. Ridley is ranked No. 5 in the PA Media Rankings. Penncrest improved to 3-3 in the league and 6-5 overall.

Ridley was leading, 6-5 until Andrew Caldwell (three goals) tied it with 3:20 to play. Minget put the Lions up just 31 seconds later.

Matt Klodarska and Garrett Boon also scored for Penncrest while Mike McKernan made eight saves, including two big ones in the final two minutes. The defense of Dylan O’Donnell, Tom Weathers, Jimmy Gastner and Andrew Butkus was standout.

“It’s a huge win,” said Penncrest coach Wayne Matsinger. “This is one of the games we circle on our calendar every year.

‘The kids really came to play. We played nice team ball and took advantage of some opportunities. It’s a huge victory over an undefeated team. I have been telling them they are a good team all year and they are finally coming around.

Kevin Garling led Ridley with two goals while Eric Streicher, Dalton George, Kelton Heverly and Ryan O’Kane scored once each.
