The first annual George T. Corrigan Leadership Award was presented to Charlie Rubin, a Radnor High School Lacrosse player who has shown exemplary character, sportsmanship, and leadership.

The scholarship will be funded through the Friends of Radnor Lacrosse, a non-profit support group for Radnor Lacrosse. The award honors the years of dedication, service, and leadership George Corrigan Sr. has given, and still gives, to the sport he loves.

An All-American attackman at University of Maryland, George Corrigan played club lacrosse in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Chicago, a Club All-Star five consecutive years 60-64. He spent over 25 years in coaching and administration with Southeastern Pennsylvania summer lacrosse leagues, a member of the group that became the Eastern Pa. Lacrosse Coaches Association. In 2007 George entered the Pa. Lacrosse Hall of Fame as, ”An individual who has demonstrated long, dedicated, and exceptional service to the game of lacrosse in Pennsylvania.”

In Radnor, or in lacrosse circles you don’t have to look far to find someone who can relate a story about George’s positive outlook on life. He just has a way of making the people around him feeling better about themselves. To this day George can be found on the Radnor High sidelines, both games and practices, surrounded by young players and coaches, engrossed in the game he loves. Georges’ years of experience, his huge heart, and his unflinching enthusiasm are a unique asset, and players, coaches, and the Radnor lacrosse community, know how special it is to have him around.

The George T. Corrigan Leadership Award is sponsored by Friends of Radnor Lacrosse. Founded in 2008, the Friends mission is to support and encourage the development of student athletes through the game of lacrosse in Radnor Township youth, middle school, and high school programs. Funds are used for equipment, scholarships, coaching staff, and clinics to enhance the lacrosse experience for our kids. In the last four years, over $38,000 has been raised and spent for Radnor Township lacrosse programs.
