Casey O’Rourke, who helped rebuild a young Lower Merion squad in one season, has resigned as boys’ lacrosse coach due to scheduling conflicts with his full-time job.
O’Rourke – a former standout at Haverford School who started for three years at Penn – served as the on-field coach last year, sharing overall coaching duties with Mike Borsch.
The Aces posted a deceiving 7-11 record in O’Rourke’s one season at Lower Merion. The team had suffered heavy graduation and lost a key transfer after qualifying for the state playoffs two straight year. Lower Merion started slowly (1-7) in 2011, but finished the year by going 6-4 – including a 6-5 win over eventual state qualifier Pennsbury in the season finale.

“Overall, there were so many positives,” said O’Rourke. “The kids were able to buy into our (program). They were working hard. They took our advice and ran with it.
“The results are starting to show. Individually, the kids are getting looks from decent schools. The talent is coming back (for 2012) and if they continue to work hard they will be firing on all cylinders.”
O’Rourke thanked his co-coach, Borsch, and assistants Pat Glynn and Jon Borror for helping make the year a success.
“I think last year we really laid the groundwork,” he said. “There are better days ahead and that’s why it kind of pains me to leave the situation. I wish I could see them through it.”
