Lawrence Academy (Mass.) rising senior attackman Conor Helfrich has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Delaware.

Lawrence Academy (Mass.) rising senior attackman Conor Helfrich has committed to Delaware

Helfrich was an All-League pick his sophomore and junior years, the team MVP his sophomore and junior years, and the team captain last season.

“I chose Delaware because it had everything I was looking for in a college,” said Helfrich. “The campus is unbelievable and has so much to offer.

Helfrich said Delaware has a strong academic reputation and offers a variety of majors. He is choosing between English and Marketing as majors.

The strength of the lacrosse program was also a major factor. The Blue Hens won their second straight Colonial Athletic Association championship under veteran coach Bob Shillinglaw last year.

“I wanted to play at the Division 1 level, and Delaware has one of the strongest programs in the country,” said Helfrich. “I visited the school twice, and after talking with Coach Shillinglaw and seeing the incredible facilities, I knew Delaware was the perfect fit.”

The Lawrence Academy lacrosse program is also on the rise. The team is looking to go above the .500 mark this season under new head coach Andrew Healy.

Helfrich currently plays for his club team, the Top Gun Fighting Clams. His previous academic honors include making the High Honor Roll, and becoming a dorm proctor.
