Brittany Dashiell scored four goals and Ashley Bruns added two goals and four assists as visiting Florida routed La Salle, 15-5, today, giving Gators coach Many O’Leary a victorious homecoming on the field she played on as a college All-American.
The game was moved to Temple’s Geasey Field due to the poor weather conditions of the past few weeks. O’Leary, a Spring-Ford graduate, was a two-time All-American in lacrosse and led the Owls’ lacrosse team to a 19-0 record and the national championship in 1988. O’Leary was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Temple Owls’ Hall of Fame.
O’Leary’s Gators are in their first season of NCAA play, but moved to 2-0, while dropping the Explorers to 0-2.
Caroline Chester added three goals for Florida, which bolted to an 8-3 halftime lead and outshot La Salle, 32-16. Stefany McKee led the Explorers with a pair of goals and an assist while Lauren McDermott (North Penn), Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) and Ashley Rutz also scored for La Salle. Megan Corliss (Archbishop Carroll) made eight saves for the Explorers.
Notre Dame 13, Hofstra 12
Maggie Tamasitis (Boyertown) had two assists as the No. 8 Fighting Irish (1-0) edged the host Pride (1-1) in their opener. Courtney O’Connor (Abington) had three goals for Hofstra and Casey Kellogg (Downingtown West) added another.
Loyola 7, UMBC 4
Kate Filippelli (Archbishop Carroll) had a goal, two groundballs and two assists to spark the Greyhounds (2-1).
