Strath Haven rising senior midfielder Jenna Frost has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Colgate University.
Frost was an honorable mention Central League pick last year for a Panthers team that shared
the league title and advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs. A three-year letter-winner, Frost plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.
Colgate, coached by Heather Young, went 4-2 last year (9-8 overall) in the Patriot League and fell to Navy in the league playoffs.
“I’m excited to play in the Patriot League. With the possibility of games close to home, it will give my family and friends a chance to watch some games. Coach Young and (assistant) coach (Heidi) Ross (Conestoga alum) see me contributing to the success of their team in the midfield.
“I have speed and field vision, which helps me in my transition game. Although I’m more defensive-minded I am gaining more confidence in attacking the net.”
Frost has not chosen a major.
“Colgate is a perfect fit for me,” Frost said. “Academically, it’s an outstanding school. Although I’m not sure of my major at this time, I look forward to exploring the options that will be available to me. Its small size and beautiful campus and little town, reminds me some of my hometown, Swarthmore.”
Frost said the 2010 season at Strath Haven was a success. The Panthers, despite a youthful lineup, were the only team to defeat Radnor and reached the quarterfinals of the District 1 tournament.
Frost is the third Strath Haven rising senior to commit to a Division I college. The others are Summer O’Donnell (Drexel) and Alex Duckenfield (Vanderbilt).
“I’ve been so lucky to have a strong high school team,” Frost said. “I’ve played with amazing lacrosse players and that has really helped me grow as a lacrosse player.
“Our win this year over Radnor was so exciting. It was great to prove to people that we still are the Strath Haven lacrosse team we always have been. Every single player on our team wanted to win, and that energy transferred to the field.
“We’re a very close team on the field, so it’s a lot of fun to play together. Our closeness shows since many alumni continue to come back and support our team; and even though they graduated, they remain a member of Strath Haven Lacrosse team.”
