Springfield-Delco's Janel Folkomer

Springfield-Delco senior goalie Janel Folkomer has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Cabrini College.

Folkomer helped the Cougars claim the District 1 title last year while earning Central League Second Team and All-Phillylacrosse.com Honorable Mention honors.

Folkomer will play for Cavaliers coach Jackie Neary, a Ridley grad who also starred at Temple. Folkomer plans to pursue Physical Therapy.

When I went there I thought it was a beautiful campus and (coach Neary) was very nice,” Folkomer said. “It’s close to home and they have a good program.”

Folkomer said she learned about physical therapy when she suffered torn ligaments in her ankle last fall during soccer season. She saw physical therapists for two months.

“I had to go to physical therapy, but I thought it was pretty cool,” she said.

Folkomer said the highlight of last season was Springfield-Delco’s 14-9 win over Radnor in the District 1 final. Folkomer allowed just one goal in the second half. The Cougars finished the year 22-3, falling in the second round of states.

“After the game, I didn’t think it was real,” she said. I was in shock just; it was a great win. The defense was great and we all played together.”

This year the Cougars are again shooting to contend with the likes of defending league and state champion Radnor for Central League, District 1 and state honors.

Today Springfielf-Delco (2-0) opens play in its southern trip against Norfolk (Va.) in Virginia Beach and tomorrow it plays at Cape Henry, Va.
