Pottstown senior defender Jess DeCandro has signed a national Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at Shippensburg University.
DeCandro was a first-team Pioneer Athletic Conference pick last year and has helped the Trojans get off to a 7-4 start this season. She plays club lacrosse for AfterShock.
DeCandro, an Honor Roll student, will major in early Childhood at Shippensburg and join fellow Trojan and best friend Amanda Krok, who signed in the fall. Shippensburg is coached by Pottsgrove graduate Mia Gambino.
“I love the environment and I felt as soon as I stepped foot on the place I felt comfortable and safe,” DeCandro said. “And I love little kids. I have been student-teaching with first-graders as part of a class for high school.
“I like how all little kids have their own personalities and they all have their own different way of showing how they learn.”
DeCandro will be coaching as an assistant with AfterShock this summer with youth players. She said she has good role models in Pottstown coach Andy Bachman and AfterShock coach Jennifer Medaglia.
“I like giving the knowledge that I have gotten from coach Bachman and (coach Medaglia),” she said.
