Mount St. Joseph Academy senior defender Shannon Zoldy has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lafayette College.

Zoldy was an All-Athletic Association of Catholic Academies (AACA) choice last year for Mounties, who went 10-9 and advanced to the District 1 tournament. She plays club lacrosse for Ultimate Goal.

Mount St. Joseph's Shannon Zoldy has committed to Lafayette

Zoldy, a member of the National Honor Society, plans to major in Neuroscience, a program that combines Biology and Psychology. She hopes to go to medical school upon graduation.

“I chose Lafayette because it allowed me to play Division I college lacrosse and get a great education while staying closer to my family,” she said. “I adore coach (Alison) Fisher and the whole coaching staff.”

Zoldy is the second senior from the Mount to commit to a Division I college; midfielder Stevie Wells recently committed to Columbia. Another Philly recruit, goalie Mimi Connell, a Paoli native who attends Berkshire School (Conn.), also committed to Lafayette.

Zoldy is confident the Mount can contend for the AACA crown in 2011.

“We have lot of expectations this year,” she said. “We only lost two of seniors, and we have a lot of strong returning players. We are hoping to beat the top contenders and make it to the league championship game.”

Seniors can sign a national letter of Intent during the early signing period Nov. 10-17.
