Bishop Shanahan rising senior midfielder Hannah Goforth has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.
Goforth was a first-team Ches-Mont League pick this year for a team that went 8-9, made the District 1 playoffs and was named the Most Improved squad by the Pennsylvania Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association.
Goforth, a member of the National Honor Society, collected 42 goals, 71 groundballs and 47 draw controls for Shanahan while serving as a co-captain. She plays club lacrosse for PA Express and also was a member of the Philly 3 team at the National Tournament this spring.

Goforth, who also considered Temple and Catholic University,
plans to major in a field of science and hopes to eventually go to medical school.
“It’s a great academic school and that was my top priority,” said Goforth, a member of the National Honor Society. “Also, they play in the Big East and face some great teams. I also liked the coach (Jeb Chagan).
“It’s close, but not too close.”
Goforth, whose coach at Shanahan is her father, Kevin Goforth, said the 2010 season was a success and that the Eagles expect to improve again in 2011.
“We did really well last year and beat some team Shanahan had never beaten,” she said. “We definitely improved and even though we’ve lost some key seniors, we should be as good if not better next year so I am real excited.”
