Bishop Shanahan rising senior midfielder Casey Briglia has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Duquesne University.

Briglia, a two-year starter, helped Bishop Shanahan reach the District 1 playoffs this year.

She is also an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society.

“I chose Duquesne because when I visited the campus, I loved the school, the environment, the coaches and the team,” said Briglia. “It was obvious to me that it was an amazing group of people that were very close with one another.”

Head coach Michael Scerbo, in his fifth year at Duquesne, was nominated by his coaching peers for the prestigious IWLCA National Division II Coach of the Year award in 2001 while coaching at Limestone College.

Briglia plans to study nursing at Duquesne. “I love working with people, and I truly want to help them in any way that I can,” she said.

Briglia plays for PA Express, which placed 5th in the Women’s National Club Championship tournament in Germantown, MD.

Briglia is also a key player at Shanahan, which was named the Most Improved squad in the Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (PASLA). She is one of two Shanahan rising seniors to commit to a Division I college; the other is Hannah Goforth (midfielder, Villanova).

“Our team is growing better and better each year,” she said of Shanahan.
