Bayard Rustin's Julie Tatios

Bayard Rusting senior midfielder Julie Tatios has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Lehigh University.

Tatios was a Ches-Mont League Second-Team pick last year when she scored 49 goals and helped the Golden Knights (18-5) reach the semifinals of the District 1 playoffs.

At Lehigh, Tatios will play for coach Jill Redfern (Ursinus College). Tatios joins Abington attack Kate Cooper as a Mountain Hawk recruit.

Tatios originally committed to Brown University, but she always considered Lehigh as her first choice. Recently, she changed her commitment when Lehigh offered more scholarship money.

“When I visited Lehigh I thought everything was perfect,” she said. “Academically, I seemed to fit in and I felt it would challenge me, but not be too (difficult).

“I love the library and the stain glass ceilings and the school seems unique. Lacrosse-wise, the coaches are awesome and coach Redfern wants the players to do well ands also get a job. She wants us to have balance.”

Tatios, who plays club lacrosse for SEPA, is optimistic as the Golden Knights prepare to challenge again in the Ches-Mont.

“We have eight seniors and we’re hoping to start the season off right and get some of the younger girls filling in,” she said. “Some of us have played together on travel teams and that has helped us to work together.”
