Recent Bayard Rustin midfielder Meghan Watkin has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University.

Watkin was a third-team All-Ches-Mont League pick and an Academic All-American

Bayard Rustin's Meghan Watkin will play at St. Joseph's

for the Golden Knights this year, helping them finish 8-9 while reaching the District 1 tournament.

Watkin will major in Nursing at St. Joseph’s and joins Philly’s Val Paolucci (Springfield-Delco, attack), Jess Nowojski (Great Valley, attack) and Brittany Hanrahan (North Penn, defender) as freshman recruits.

“I really liked the location of the school,” Watkin said. “The distance was perfect. I like to be home when I can, but I also can be on my own.

“I really could not see myself at a desk job and I am not grossed out by blood. I am interested in helping people, so I found it (being a nurse) interesting.”

Watkin, who is a member of the National Honor Society, played club lacrosse for SEPA.

This year Watkin was a key leader on a young team that showed much improvement as the season progressed.

“We only had four starters back and we were so young that I played everything from defensive midfield to attack to center,” she said. “We came together as a team this year.

“The younger players stepped up. It was like night and day from the beginning of the year to the end. We weren’t as strong as we were the past few years, but I had a great experience.”
