Women’s college roundup: Caulfield (U. Darby) leads Salisbury to D3 title; Philly women helps teams reach D1 semis

Salisbyr's Julie Ann Caulfield (Upper Darby) led team to NCAA title

Junior goalie Julie Ann Caulfield (Upper Darby) made eight saves and earned all-tournament honors as the Salisbury women’s lacrosse team won the Division III national title with a 7-6 victory over previously undefeated Hamilton College Sunday at Gettysburg.

The national championship is the first for Salisbury, which had been a national finalist three times (2005, ’07, ’09).

Garrity (Strath Haven) helps UNC reach D1 semifinals

Freshman Emily Garrity (Strath Haven) had two goals and an assist and a draw control as the Tar Heels dominated Virginia, 17-7, in the Division I quarterfinals. UNC will play Northwestern Friday at Towson in the semifinals.

Virginia defender Marghi Walters (Penn Charter) had a groundball and a caused turnover.

DePetris (Archbishop Carroll) helps Syracuse reach semis

Jackie DePetris (Archbishop Carroll) scored once as Syracuse defeated James Madison, 7-3, n the quarterfinals. Syracuse will meet No. 1 Maryland in the semis Friday.

Annie Brophy (Archbishop Carroll) scored once for JMU.

Magarity (Germantown Academy) helps Northwestern advance

Starting defender Colleen Magarity (Germantown Academy) had a groundball as Northwestern advanced to the semifinals with an 18-8 triumph over Duke on Saturday.

Amanda Jones (Germantown Academy) and Kim Wenger (Great Valley) each scored once for the Blue Devils.
