Widener for the third consecutive season will compete in the Nick Colleluori Classic, which this year takes place Sunday, October 10 at Ridley High School.
Widener will face Immaculata at 11:00 am and Ursinus at 4:00 pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under age 12 and free for children under age five. All proceeds go to the HEADstrong Foundation.
The tournament and clinic will raise money and awareness about the HEADstrong Foundation, which was created to raise money for blood cancer research and help those afflicted by this horrible disease. The foundation was created in memory of Nick Colleluori, a 2004 graduate of Ridley High School who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Donations can be made to the HEADstrong Foundation by clicking www.HEADstrongfoundation.org. The Nick Colleluori Classic has raised $425,000 to date for the foundation.
The classic is a two-day event which features 10 Division I games Saturday, October 9 and 10 Division III contests Sunday.
Widener (10-10, 6-5 MAC) last season won its fifth Middle Atlantic Conference title in the last six years and 12th overall. The squad did so as a number six seed, becoming the second team to win three games in the tournament a first with all of them on the road. The Pride also made their eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
