The Spring-Ford girls’ lacrosse team has been named the United Sports Team of the Week for helping organize and run the Make-A-Wish Charity Ball March 27 at Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown.
The event was created last year by Spring-Ford coach Kori McDaniel and long-time friend Kelly Kurtz, who founded the Three Wishes Charity, a beneficiary of the Make-A-Wish of Philadelphia and the Susquehanna Valley.
McDaniel’s players served as hosts while serving a variety of roles in helping run the Ball, which was attended by 150 people and will help send three children with life-threatening diseases to Disney World with their families.
The event featured a silent auction and a dinner dance.
“The girls were so excited about being involved in the event,” McDaniel said. “They helped out last year, and this year they bought dresses and told me they didn’t realize how good they had it until I started showing them stories of these children that night.
“So many youths today are prima donas. They think they are entitled to everything. But this is a portrayal of what giving back is all about. They worked hard and wanted to show that common people can make a huge difference.
“The motivation to give back at such a young age is remarkable.”
The event has raised $40,000 for Make-A-Wish in two years.
