Thursday’s Philly girls’ scholastic roundup: Sacred Heart defeats Villa Maria Academy for first time

Stephanie Finley scored the game-winner in overtime off a free position as Sacred Heart defeated Villa Maria Academy, 14-13, Thursday for its first-ever win over the Hurricanes in a Catholic Academies Association game.

Finley had six goals and four assists and won it after a long outlet pass by goalie Amy Robinson (11 saves) helped set up a scoring chance. The Lions rallied from a 6-1 deficit and eventually sent it into overtime when Eileen Dombrowski (six goals) scored with 1.9 seconds in regulation.

Molly Rooney had five defensive turnovers to pace the midfield.

Chelsea Fay led Villa Maria with five goals.

Gwynedd Mercy Academy 10,Villa Joseph Marie 9

Jamie Bumgardner had six goals and two assists and Cait Bashwiner made 11 saves to help Gwynedd claimed the win.

MaryLee Mahoney led VJM with five goals.

Springfield-Delco 12, Garnet Valley 6

Shannon Burns had four goals and three assists to lead the Cougars to the Central League win. Tori Mitros had two goals for GV.

Pottstown 16, Spring-Ford 11

Kasey Mock pumped in nine goals to pace the the Trojans to the PAC-10 win.

Marisa Moley, Maddie Ward, Carly Engle and Sasha Wazniak each had two goals for the Rams.

Notre Dame 16, Friends’ Central 7

Kristen Bandos collected five goals and two assists and Bridget Burns had three goals and four assists to pace the Irish.

Becca Dahle had two goals and two assists for Friends’ Central.

Downingtown East 15, Bishop Shanahan 6

Emily Solenberger fired in four goals Kelly Devlin had two goals and three assists to lead the Cougars to the Ches-Mont win.

Liz Duke, Hannah Goforth and Kathryn Skahan each scored twice for Shanahan.

Archbishop Wood 18, Little Flower 7

Caitlyn McCartney had six goals and one assist to lead the Vikings to victory.

Wissahickon 20, Plymouth Whitemarsh 5

Aubrey Bossert scored a game-high six goals and two assists and Sam Stutman scored five goals to lead the Trojans to the Suburban One victory.

Jenna Hickey scored two goals for PW.

Strath Haven 20, Upper Darby 1

On Senior night, seniors Ana White (four goals, two assists), Caroline Murphy (three goals) and Clare Sherry (two goals) led the way while aenior Goalie Steph Maz made three saves.

Ridley 11, Harriton 9

Carly McColgan, Becky Donkin and Sam Bartow had three goals each for the Green Raiders.

Carli Sukonic paced the Rams with three goals.

Radnor 17, Haverford 5

Allie Martin had three goals and five assists to lead the undefeated Red Raiders.

Conestoga 14, Marple Newtown 0

Britta Hjelm led the Pioneers with three goals and one assist.

Springfield-Delco 12, Garnet Valley 6

Shannon Burns had four goals and three assists while Courtney Kennedy had three goals for the Cougars.

Episcopal Academy 17, Merion Mercy 11

Blake McHugh had six goals and Taylor Trimble added five goals and three assists for EA in the non-league win.

Downingtown West 18, Coatesville 6

Jaymie Tabor exploded for nine goals and four assists to pace the Whippets.

Cheltenham 13, Upper Merion 6

Kellie Manoppello had five goals for Upper Merion in defeat.
