Team Harley, a team comprised of 45-plus players from Philadelphia and Baltimore, advanced to the finals of the Grand Master’s Warrior Division (A) today in the 9th Annual Florida Lacrosse Classic being played at Weston, Fla.

Team Harley, the defending champion and top seed, defeated No. 2 seed Slo Moes, 9-8, in overtime in the semifinals. Team Harley will play Atlantic Sportswear of New England and Long Island in the finals. Team Harley defeated Atlantic Sportswear, 11-5, this summer to win the title at the Lake Placid Classic.

Atlantic Sportswear defeated the Polar Bears, 17-4, to reach the finals, which will be held at noon tomorrow. Team Harley is sponsored by Hannum’s Harley Davidson of the Delaware Valley and features many name players with Philly ties.

More than 500 men from 33 teams are competing in the tournament, which raises money for youth lacrosse throughout Florida. The tourney is held at Tequesta Trace Park near Ft. Lauderdale.

On Friday in first-round games, Team Harley toppled Faber College, 10-2, and Elder Statesmen, 8-4, to reach the semifinals of the 10-team bracket.

Meanwhile in the B Division (Brine), the Philly-based Eagles (seeded fifth) will play Sunday in the ninth-place consolation game. The Eagles fell to the HouNDds, 6-5, in the opening round Friday and rebounded with an 8-4 triumph over the Reapers. Today the Eagles fell to the OWU Legends, 8-5.

In the Half Century Division (50 and over), the Gray Eagles, comprised mainly of players on the Eagles, fell to the Olde Wu Legends, 5-3, and the Reapers, 9-4. The Gray Eagles play in consolation games tomorrow.

The Eagles are a charter member of the tourney, having participated every year since its inception in 2002.

The Florida Lacrosse Classic has helped support 73 new youth lacrosse programs throughout the state by raising over $103,000, according to tournament board director Don Clinton.
