Sophomore goalie Ashley Harman (Boyertown) posted 11 saves and allowed just two goals to lead the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team to a 18-5 rout of host St. Mary’s Friday night in the year’s first NCAA game.
Sophomores Lauren Ciccomascolo and Kara Secora both had four goals and two assists for the winning Pioneers, who bolted to a 6-0 lead and then coasted.
Harman was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Year in 2009. Also from Philly, freshman midfielder Kate Henrich (Germantown Academy) had one groundball and one caused turnover.
Denver, which went 10-8 last year, next plays at Duke on Feb. 12.
