Colin Keegan scored four goals, Josh Cavanaugh added three and Austin Kaut sparkled in the goal again with 15 saves as host Springfield-Delco toppled La Salle, 11-5, today in a battle of the top two teams in the Phillylacrosse.com Boys’ Rankings.

The win was the 11th straight for the second-ranked Cougars, who improved to 13-1. The top-ranked Explorers, who are also came in ranked No. 1 in the PA Media Rankings, ninth in the LaxGuys’ Poll and 20th in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse Power Rankings, fell to 9-2 and saw their nine-game win streak snapped.

Jordan Demcher added a goal and two assists for the Cougars while Joe Venit, Bobby Gildea and long pole
Joe Addona each scored once. Addona also excelled defensively against La Salle junior standout attackman Kevin Forster (one goal).

Springfield-Delco now has knocked off two former No. 1 teams from the PIAA poll; Conestoga and La Salle. Cougars coach Mike Friel admitted the win was huge, but noted that the playoffs will ultimately tell the real story.

“Austin had 15 and played unreal,” said Friel. “This is another great win along the way, but we still need to keep it going.

“I am very proud of my kids and their effort. They answer the bell, regardless of who thinks we are lucky. We have three more huge regular season games to go and they don’t crown champs in May.”

Christian Cardinal, Dan Losier, Patrick Resch and Stephen Kelly also scored for the Explorers.
