Garrett Rosiek scored with 39 seconds left in the fifth overtime to give visiting Wissahickon a memorable 7-6 victory over arch-rival Upper Dublin Friday in a Suburban One American Conference boys’ lacrosse game for the record books.
The Trojans led 5-1 early in the second half and had a 6-3 lead early in the fourth period, but the Cards battled back and eventually tied it, 6-6, on a tally by Jake Long (two goals) with 3:58 left in regulation.
Jeff Gebert led the Trojans with three goals while Patrick Delaney, Brian Dick and A.J. Anderson also scored. Sean Smith had 15 saves, eight in overtime.
“All I felt was relief when we won,” said Gebert. “I was very, very happy. They beat us two times last year by, I believe, one goal. I was pretty gassed by the end; I just thought we had to win this game.
“This was a huge win for us. Our goal is to be champions and this is a brand new first step forward. By finally beating them, this is something to (build on) for the future.”
Andy Lunney, Casey Boyd, Willy Beury and Kieran Hetznecker also scored for Upper Dublin. Kevin Slider had 12 saves.
