Carl Walrath collected four goals and four assists and Brendan McGrath scored four goals while Matt Walters added three goals and three assists as Haverford School earned an impressive 21-14 victory over Hill Academy of Ontario in the first round of a special scholastic tournament today at the New Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.
The game was part of a doubleheader that kicked off the Konica Minolta Big City Classic, featuring three major men’s Division conference games. The Fords, the No. 1 ranked team in the PA Media Rankings, advance to play Highland Park, Texas, at Lawrencville School for the tourney championship Sunday at 1 p.m. Lawrenceville and Hill Academy will play at 11 a.m. in the consolation.
Highland Park defeated Lawrenceville, 12-8, in the opener.
Haverford School (6-2), which has won five straight, including last Saturday’s 8-7 triumph over then-No. 1 Conestoga, led the whole way and dominated at the face-off X behind Liam O’Connor and Joe McCallion.
Hup Hupfeldt collected two goals and three assists and O’Connor, Stephen Aitken and Grove Stewart each added two goals for Haverford School. Sam Rohr had a goal and an assists and McCallion also scored while Conor Kelly was strong in the nets with eight saves.
Reilly O’Connor led Hill Academy with three goals and two assists.
