Host Haverford School scored seven unanswered goals in the first half to rally from a 3-1 deficit and then cruised to a 15-8 victory today over Gilman School (MD) in boys’ lacrosse action.
The Fords (2-2), who have now split against teams from the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association and snapped a two-game losing streak, seized the 8-3 halftime lead and padded it to 11-5 after three periods.
Haverford School dominated at the face-off X behind Liam O’Connor and Joe McCallion, while Conor Kelly was strong in goal. Stephen Aitken and O’Connor each scored three goals and Carl Walrath had two goals and three assists. Brendan McGrath had two goals and an assist and Sam Rohr added two goals while Matt Walters, Grove Stewart and Will McNamara added one apiece. Henry Blynn added an assist.
Connor Doyle and Ryan Tucker had three goals each for the Greyhounds (2-1).
The Fords now gear for Friday afternoon’s contest at two-time defending state champion La Salle, which, as a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, will be making its debut.
Malvern Prep 9, Hill School 4
The host Friars evened their record to 1-1 with the non-league win, dropping the Blues to 0-4.
Mike Dougherty scored three goals for the Friars while TJ Hanzsche added a goal and two assists. Joe Tosti added one goal and Andrew O’Connell was strong in the goal while Drew Kennedy was strong at the face-off X. Bobby Hill and Mark Jackson were strong at midfield and Keith Dreyer contributed on attack.
PJ Mara led Hill with two goals and Ted Wolter and Ryan Sterret each scored once. Tyler Himes made seven saves and Duncan Saunders had 12 saves.
