Tyler Odell scored two goals and fellow sophomore Tyler Morrell made 12 saves in goal as host Episcopal Academy held off Malvern Prep, 7-5, Friday in its Inter-Ac League opener.
The Churchmen improved to 8-2 overall, while dropping the Friars to 5-4 and 0-2 in the league.
EA opened a 5-0 lead in the third period on goals by Odell, Connor Haab, Joe Scullin, Bryson Craft and Andrew Gordon. Malvern got back into the game on goals by Mark Jackson, Keith Dryer and Henry Lobb.
But later in the third period, Shane Morrell gave EA a 6-3 lead off a feed from defenseman Elliot Albert.
Odell made it 7-3 early in the fourth period before Jackson and Bobby Hill scored for Malvern Prep.
Albert, Craft and Jackson Place led the Episcopal Acdemy defense.
Jackson also led the Friars with strong midfield play and long stick midfielder Lobb paced the defense. Ryan Creighton had a strong game at attack while O’Connell had a solid outing with nine saves.
