Recap of ESPN Rise Warrior 40 All-Star Game: Seven Philly players made impact

Seven Philly rising seniors participated in the first ESPN Rise Warrior 40 held at Boston’s Harvard Stadium on July 8-9.

ESPN as the top rising seniors in the country.

The Orange team – featuring strong contributions from Haverford School’s Goran Murray (long stick midfielder/committed to Maryland) and Carl Walrath (midfielder-attackman/Virginia) – rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to win, 14-12. Villanova recruit Christian Bennardo, of St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) and Conor Doyle (Gilman School, MD/Notre Dame) each had four goals to spark the victory.

For the Blue team, Penn Charter’s Joey Sankey (attackman/North Carolina) had four goals while La Salle’s Kevin Forster (attackman/Maryland) and Haverford School’s Brendan McGrath (midfielder/Princeton) each had two goals and Salesianum School’s Ryan Kilpatrick (defenseman/North Carolina) had two assists. Conestoga’s Brian Dailey (LSM/Duke) was a contributor at long stick midfielder.

The game was tied, 12-12, with one minute to play when Doyle put his team ahead to stay. Bennardo added his fourth goal of the game with 34 seconds left to ice it.

The event also featured a skill competition and a practice run by pro players. The 42 Warrior players also helped run a youth clinic and they attended the All-Star game between the Major League Lacrosse stars and the US National Team that begins play in the FIL World Championships Saturday.
