Like all of the 550 players that participated in the Philly Showcase during the weekend at Episcopal Academy, Pottsgrove sophomore Jimmy Case was looking to get recognized by some of the many college coaches in attendance.
But Case had even more incentive.
On Tuesday it will be one year when Case’s older brother, Andrew, died in a car accident in East Coventry Township. A standout lacrosse player, Andrew Case was everything a big brother could be for Jimmy, now a sophomore at Pottsgrove.
The two were inseparable, especially when it came to lacrosse.
“All the time we were always together playing lacrosse,” Jimmy said. “We had a net in our backyard. He and I were back there every single day.”
On Saturday, Case, a defenseman, got his chance to shine at the Philly Showcase, for himself and his brother.
“All the time, he always stressed, ‘Don’t get beat; remember to keep your feet.'”
Indeed, Case kept his feet well enough to be named to the Gait Fab Forty Sophomore all-star game.
“After the accident it was rough getting back on my feet to practice lacrosse,” Case said. “After a while, you get used to a little bit.
“You never really get used it; nothing goes back to normal. You start getting back on the books and getting back on the field and start practicing. That’s all you gotta do.”
Jimmy Case said he eventually found new people to play lacrosse with in the backyard.
“That was the roughest thing. I started trying to get back into practice, and he wasn’t really there. It was a tough thing. I started finding other people to practice with.”
Case said his goal “is to play D1 lacrosse.”
His motivation? For one, it’s his brother.
“He’s always in my heart, all the time,” he said. “He’s not here, but one day, I’ll see him.”
