The Philly-based Pattison Sports Group will hold the inaugural Summer Slam Lacrosse Tournament for 96 boys’ youth club teams on June 26-27 at the Episcopal Academy.
The tournament will consist of teams from around the country in four age groups: U11, U13, U15 and U17. Each team is guaranteed four games and teams playing for divisional titles will play a fifth game.
The Pattison Sports Group last spring ran the inaugural Inter-Ac League Tournament, which this year is expanding to three more prep teams around the Philadelphia region,
“Lacrosse has shown a huge growth at the youth and high school levels, especially in our area,” said Scott Ely, a Summer Slam co-tourney director,. “We just saw an opportunity to create a new event that could really take off.
“There are tons of club teams looking for places to play teams and Episcopal Academy is a phenomenal facility. We see lacrosse as a growth sport, so it was time to put on a big event.”
Ely said there will be teams coming from all regions of the county to participate. No said that there will be two divisions of 32 teams in the U-17 and U-15 classes and that each winner of all the four-team sub-divisions will compete in a championship playoff.
“As I understand it, everyone thinks their region is the best,” said Ely. “We want to invite teams form all over and give everyone an opportunity to play teams from across the country to see who has the best teams.”
Ely said that the new Episcopal Academy campus features a top-rated facility with both artificial turf and natural grass surfaces.
“We are excited to launch the Summer Slam Tournament at a world class facility such as Episcopal,” said Jeff Long, President of Pattison Sports Group. “The interest and response from the growing lacrosse community has been impressive. We expect to draw great teams from the west to complement the top teams that Philly continues to draw from the north and south.”
