New announcements: Old School Lacrosse Club tryouts; Devon Prep assistant coach opening

The Old School Lacrosse Club is holding its second and last day of tryouts on Sunday, December 12 (weather permitting) at Haverford School for boys in grades 9 through 11.

There are three grade level teams. There will be approximately 10 practices over the summer to gear up for a tournament. The practices focus on individual skill development.

Old School Lacrosse places emphasis on technical skill and individual mastery of their position. The coaches are John Nostrant, the head coach at Haverford School and former Philadelphia Wings player; David Metzbower, the head coach at Malvern Prep and former associate head coach at Princeton University; and Todd Macfarlane, the head coach at Phelps School and former Anaheim Storm player.

Class of 2012 team (current juniors) will check-in at 10:00 am, tryout at 10:30 am and be finished by 11:30 am. Class of 2013 team (current sophomores) will check-in at 11:30 am, tryout at 12:00 pm and be finished by 1:00 pm. Class of 2014 team (current freshmen) will check-in at 1:00 pm, tryout at 1:30 pm and be finished by 2:30 pm. Check-in will be in the Athletic Field House at The Haverford School.

Devon Prep seeks assistant coach

The Devon Prep Boys’ Lacrosse team has an opening on its staff for an Assistant Head Coach, who will primarily work with the varsity squad. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to –
1. Teaching and developing all aspects of the offensive/defensive game;
2. Assisting the head coach in preparing and executing practice plans;
3. Developing game plans with the head coach;
4. Scouting future opponents.
“Prior playing and coaching experience is required. This is a coaching-only position. The regular season begins in March, but we will have off-season activities, including conditioning, voluntary practices, and a winter indoor team starting in DECEMBER.
