Billy McCabe and Josh Sutterfield are best friends and have been playing lacrosse together since eighth grade.

Now the two recent Spring-Ford graduates will room together after committing to play lacrosse at local Division III power Cabrini College.
McCabe, a defenseman, was named Pioneer Athletic Conference MVP in 2010. He also was an Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association and first-team PAC-10 pick. Sutterfield, a face-off specialist, was a first-team PAC-10 selection.
McCabe and Sutterfield were captains on a team that finished 19-3, reached the finals of the PAC-10 playoffs for the fourth straight year and won its first District 1 playoff game (over Council Rock North).
McCabe is undecided on a major. “I went on a visit early on in the season and I liked that it’s close to home so my family can come watch me play,” he said. “I clicked with the coaches and it’s a great program.”
Cabrini, coached by Steve Colfer, claimed its 10th straight Colonial States Athletic Conference title this year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season.

“They’ve had a lot of success in the past few years and I am excited to go into a program that is doing so well,” McCabe said.
McCabe, a four-year starter, said the Rams have improved dramatically since he came to Spring-Ford. This year the Rams had an early-season win over Central League power Lower Merion and gained much respect throughout the district.
“We finally beat Lower Merion and we’ve made a lot of strides in the last few years,” he said. “The program is doing great.”
Sutterfield won 73.7 percent (183 of 248) of his face-offs this year and added 131 groundballs. In the 12-4 District 1 win over CR North, Sutterfield won 11 of 12 draws, scooped 10 groundballs and had a goal and an assist.
Sutterfield originally committed to Marymount (Va.) in the fall, but changed his mind for financial reasons. He had been recruited by Cabrini and was familiar with the college because his

mother works for a pre-school affiliated with the college.
Sutterfield, also a standout cross-country runner, will major either in Exercise Science or Pre-Physical Therapy.
“It’s a smaller school and everyone knows you so you can’t slack off,” he said. “Also, I can run cross-country in the fall.”
Sutterfield and McCabe began playing together for Black Bear Montco five years ago. They also played together on the Montco team at the Keystone State Games in 2008 and 2009. Now, they are playing together on three summer leagues to prepare for Cabrini.
“It’s reassuring to have someone you can count on,” said Sutterfield.
