Recent La Salle graduates Wes Meehan (defenseman) and Ryan Saraceni (defenseman) will play Division III lacrosse at the University of Scranton.
Meehan and Saraceni (Honorable Mention All-Catholic League North) helped the Explorers win their seventh straight Catholic League championship and advanced to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) championship game. The Explorers won the two previous state crowns.
Meehan will study Accounting.
“They have a strong business school and when I visited I like both the city and family feel of the school,” Meehan said. “And I am excited to play another four years with Ryan.”
Meehan noted that La Salle surprised some skeptics that did not expect the team to return to the state finals after losing many top players to graduation. La Salle fell to Conestoga, 10-6, in the finals at HersheyPark Stadium.
“We had a great season and it was awesome to get back to the state championship game,” he said. “Unfortunately, we fell short, but it was a good ride.”
Also headed to Scranton from Philly are Conestoga’s Gus Sturm (attackman) and St. Joseph’s Prep’s John Gregitis (midfielder).
