St. Joseph’s Prep senior defenseman Clint Barber has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
Barber was a First Team Catholic League Southern Division selection last year. He helped the Hawks finish 12-8 and claim the No. 8 spot in the final PA Media Rankings while reaching the Catholic League finals.
Barber, who plays club lacrosse for LB3, plans to major in Economics. He will join Malvern Prep midfielder Matt Neeson as a Denison recruit.
“It was a good academic and athletic fit,” Barber said. “Its has a pretty prestigious economics program and I liked coach (Mike) Caravana and the members of the team.”
Caravan, recently inducted into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame, led the Big Red to 10-4 season in 2010. Denison fell to Cabrini in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Barber is the sixth St. Joe’s senior to commit to play college lacrosse. Five others – attackman Cory Scheuerle (Lafayette), face-off specialist/midfielder Jake O’Brien (Lafayette), attackman Rob Watts (St. Joseph’s University), defenseman Connor Dent (Bryant) and midfielder Jeff Heath (Delaware) – have committed to Division I colleges.
With a strong nucleus returning, Barber is confident the Hawks can challenge La Salle (seven-time champion) for the crown.
“We have a great core group back,” Barber said. “The guys are working hard and trying to be poised for another Catholic League showdown. The guys are hungry for the win. I know we’ll work hard.”
