Perkiomen Valley senior defenseman Joe Scenna has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Robert Morris University.

Scenna was a Pioneer Athletic Conference first-team pick in 2009 for the Vikings. He earned honorable mention status as a sophomore.

Scenna plays club lacrosse for Black Bear and also was a two-way starter for the Perk Valley football team. He recently was named an Honorable Mention all-league offensive lineman

At Robert Morris, located in Moon Township, near Pittsburgh, Scenna will join two Philly recruits from Downingtown West – attackman Ryan Higgins and defenseman Tyler Rankel. An Honor Roll student, he plans to major in Accounting.

“I picked it because my brother went to Pitt and I really liked the area,” Scenna said. “It’s a suburban school with a city right next to it.”

Last year the Colonials went 9-7, a vast improvement after going 4-11 the previous year.

“That success really helped them get more recruits,” said Scenna. “I am looking at the team to contend.”

Scenna also is looking for Perk Valley to contend in the PAC-10. The Vikings return most of their starters.

“We do return nearly everybody,” he said. “We played a lot of juniors last year that now have experience. We’re working real hard and we expect to contend.”

Editor’s Note: In 2010, Scenna earned All-PAC-10 first-team honors and was named the league winner of the George A. Kruse Award for sportsmanship.
