Recent Norristown graduate Shane Franzone (attackman) has signed a letter of intent and will play Division II lacrosse at Chestnut Hill College.
Franzone was a Third Team Suburban One American Conference pick in 2010 when he collected 42 goals and 25 assists for the Eagles. He played club lacrosse for Penn Premier.
Franzone – the first Norristown player to sign a letter of intent at the Division I or II level – joins Central Bucks South’s Kevin Sonderschafer (midfielder as Philly recruits for the second-year program at Chestnut Hill.
“I choose Chestnut Hill because of the location and the program’s youth,” Franzone said. “I played at a high school where everyone was new, and so was the program and I liked the experience.”
Franzone will major in Criminal Justice at Chestnut Hill, which went a respectable 4-11 under head coach Richard Carrington in its first season.
“I really want to make a difference and help kids that are in need of help or getting back on track with their lives,” he said.
Franzone said his lacrosse experience at Norristown helped him grow.
“I look at the recent season as a step forward,” he said.
