Men’s recruit: Malvern Prep senior LSM Lobb will join youth buddy Wolf, high school teammate Conners at Duke

Malvern Prep senior long stick midfielder Henry Lobb has made a verbal commitment to play Division I Lacrosse at Duke University.

Lobb helped the Friars finish 11-9 and earn the seventh spot in the final Pennsylvania Media Lacrosse Rankings last year. He also was a member of the HEADstrong Elite clubteam that compiled an impressive 7-1 record at Champ Camp in the summer.

Lobb has wanted to attend Duke ever since he began playing lacrosse. He’s pleased he’ll be joined there by former Ashbee youth teammate Jordan Wolf, a Lower Merion senior attackman who committed last spring.

“In fifth grade, Jordan Wolf and I always talked about going to Duke together.,” Lobb said  “When we both got letters from (Duke) it was exciting.”

Lobb also considered Notre Dame and Syracuse before committing to Duke.

“Coach (John) Danowski really impressed me from the beginning,” said Lobb. “Although I play long stick midfielder now, he sees me playing close defense with Billy Conners.”

Conners, a Duke freshman and two-time scholastic All-American, played defense with Lobb last year at Malvern.

Lobb transferred to Malvern from Friends’ Central after his sophomore year. He chose Malvern for the quality of its program and the strength of its schedule. Lobb received Friends Schools first team honors as a sophomore.

Lobb earned a letter for the Friars last year, but was forced to sit out league games due to Inter-Ac League eligibility rules. The Friars shared the league title with the Haverford School, but fell to the Fords in the Inter-Ac tournament final.

Lobb’s goals for the upcoming season are to reclaim the Inter-Ac title, and for the team to be competitive with the highly-ranked teams on Malvern’s non-league schedule. Lobb thinks Haverford School will be the Friars’ toughest competition this season.

Lobb is one of four Friar seniors that have committed to Division I colleges; the others are goalie Andrew O’Connell and midfielder Ryan Creighton (North Carolina) and midfielder Bobby Hill (Virginia).

Seniors can sign National Letters of Intent during the early signing period Nov.11-18.
