Former Ridley High Bill McGlone scored three goals and Dan Deckelbaum (Delaware, assistant coach for Duke’s Lacrosse Club) added one while Joe Walters also scored three times to help Team USA win the inaugural Bowhunter Cup, 13-11, over the Iroquois Nationals Saturday night at the Oncenter in Syracuse.
The Nationals took an early 4-0 lead before the U.S. began chipping away, eventualyl tying it, 6-6, at the half.
The two squads traded goals to start the third quarter when McGlone scored his first of the night, giving Team USA its first lead, 8-7, late in the third period. He added his second of the night with 1:16 left in the third, converting on a fast break opportunity to make it 9-7.
McGlone later added a third goal with 9:20 left to make it 12-9.
The exhibition game was a tune-up for both squads heading into the third World Indoor Lacrosse Championships next May in the Czech Republic. After the game, former Philadelphia Wings great and MLL player (and coach) Kevin Finneran presented the Bowhunter Cup to the US captains, Casey Powell, Regy Thorpe and Chris Schiller.
