Immaculata men are on school-record 3-game win streak; Dinneen (A. Wood) earns weekly honor

The Immaculata men’s lacrosse team has won three games in a row for the first time in its short history.

The Mighty Macs improved to 3-2 Wednesday by rallying past visiting DeSales, 8-6, in a non-conference game. They shoot for their fourth straight win Saturday at 1 p.m. when they play at Alvernia in Reading.

John Cacchio (Holy Ghost Prep) had three goals while Tom Hartney (Interboro) and Joe Keller (Owen J. Roberts) also registered three points for Immaculata. Hartney had his on two goals and one assist, and Keller netted one goal and two assists.

Senior goaltender Andrew Sim (Interboro) was again brilliant, making 22 saves. Sim has 75 saves in five games. Stone Gahagan won 10 of 18 face-offs for the Mighty Macs.

Immaculata, in its fourth year of play and first under head coach Martin Mullen, was trailing 4-3 at halftime on Wednesday when the comeback began.

The Mighty Macs came out of the locker room recording four consecutive tallies to take a 7-4 lead. Hartney, Cacchio, Dante Tuscai (West Chester East) and Keller all netted goals for Immaculata in the spurt, and Ben Tuscai (West Chester East) assisted on both Cacchio and Dante Tuscai’s goals and Hartney had the feed to Keller.

Sim played all 60 minutes in the crease for the Mighty Macs making 22 saves for his third win of the season. Jacob Nyenhuis played a full 60 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and made 10 stops.
Also for Immaculata, junior Brendan Dinneen (Archbishop Wood) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Dinneen totaled 10 points on eight goals and two assists to lead Immaculata to a 2-0 record for the week. The junior registered five goals and one assist in a win over Penn State Abington, and followed that with three goals and one assist in a 9-4 victory against Lebanon Valley.
