Haverford School’s Nostrant, Metzbower to launch new boys’ lacrosse club program focusing on skill development

A new club lacrosse program, the Gold Medal Lacrosse Club, will soon begin competition for year 2012, 2013, and 2014 teams.

The program is run and coached by Haverford School head coach John Nostrant and assistant Dave Metzbower, a former assistant coach at Princeton.

The teams will compete in major summer and fall events. The program was developed to provide players with a different avenue for skill development and team play, Nostrant said.

“The purpose of the team is to develop talent as opposed to simply lobbying for the best players,” he said. “Our goal is not only to make an extremely competitive team, but also make every player better through college-like practices, speed and agility workouts, as well as position specific training.

“The program will concentrate on the fundamentals through in-depth instruction and demonstrations from the best coaches in the game. Fundamentals are the foundation to excellence.”

Nostrant said the club will focus on a specific curriculum of instruction to develop skills and team strategy. More information on the program will be released in the coming months.

“David and I are excited to not only provide another option for area players but one that focuses on skill development, position fundamentals and individualized instruction,” Nostrant said. “The Philadelphia area is quickly becoming one of most talent laden lacrosse regions in the country and we are excited to offer an experience completely different than any other club team.”

Nostrant was a three-time All-American at Washington College and a two-time All-Pro with the Philadelphia Wings. He has coached at Haverford School for 20 years, winning more than 300 games, two state championships, and 11 Inter-Ac League titles.

He also helped coach the USA U19 world team to a gold medal in 2008 and has coached at the pro level with the Wings and Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse.

Metzbower spent over 20 seasons at Princeton University as an Associate and Assistant Head Coach. He helped drive a program that has won 6 NCAA Championships and made 10 Final Four appearances.

Metzbower spent over 20 years as an assistant at Princeton. Nostrant and Metzbower also are co-directors of Gold Medal Lacrosse Recruiting.

Other coaches/advisors include: Adam Muellar, Paul O’Grady, John McEvoy, John Begier, Todd McFarlane, Roddy Marino, Scott Gabrielsen, David Stilley, Dennis Goldstein and Timmy Goldstein.
