Great Valley senior attackman Campbell Armstrong has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Lynchburg (Va.) College.
Armstrong, a second-team All Ches-Mont League selection, scored 48 goals for the Patriots, who went 1-9 in league play and 6-11 overall.
“I wanted to be able to work for playing time as a freshman,” said Armstrong, who also considered Salisbury and Stevenson. “I thought it was a good spot for me.”
Armstrong, an honor roll student who also plays soccer for Great Valley, plans to major in Business Management or Marketing.
Under coach Steve Koudelka, the Hornets went 5-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference and 11-5 overall last year. Lynchburg enters this season ranked 18 in the Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook Division III preseason Top 20 rankings. The Hornets have made five NCAA tourney appearances since 1999.
Philly grads on the Lynchburg roster include Ben Wright (Central Bucks East), Drew Johnson (Strath Haven), Dylan Hoff (Downingtown East), Joe Lisicky (Unionville), Rob Day (Lansdale Catholic), and Jon Gill (Unionville).
“I really liked Coach Koudelka and the way he ran stuff,” Armstrong said. “On one of my visits I sat in on one of the practices and liked what I saw.”
Armstrong hopes to help the Patriots make more of an impact in the Ches-Mont this season.
“I think we’ll be a lot better,” he said. “A lot of other teams lost some key people. Everyone seems to be improving in the offseason, and we’re all working hard to get better.”
